A new 2,800 m2 Enclosed Blasting Facility was officially opened on 28 June 2001 by Capt Bob Salmon, Fleet Manager of Shell International Trading & Shipping Company (STASCo) Ltd, and Alliance Manager of the STASCo/Sembawang Shipyard Alliance. The $0.5 million facility enables blasting and painting processes to be carried out simultaneously without being affected by weather conditions. A winch and trolley system installed within the facility increases the efficiency of material handling and improves productivity level. It is also environmentally friendly with its enclosures minimizing dust and paint fumes from polluting the surrounding areas.
A fully air-conditioned Mechanical Cryogenic Workshop was set up early in year 2002 to meet with the increasing demand for specialized cryogenic works to be carried out on LNG Carriers. The workshop provides a dust free environment for the repairs of cryogenic machinery such as valves and pumps at an ambient temperature of 22°C. A 5-ton capacity motorized plain electric hoist with 8 m headroom at a total running length of 20m, and two 2-ton capacity motorized wall jib crane with 4 m headroom are installed in the workshop to aid in maneuvering the heavy equipment. The workshop is also equipped with dedicated tools used only for cryogenic repair work.
